1. Practice Every Day. Every Day Counts! Even if you can only practice for just five minutes, try and do it every day. Otherwise, you lose what you have gained. Remember, practicing music is partly building fine muscle skills.

2. Take scheduled breaks. Every now and then, you need a rest for muscle recovery. I try and take one day of rest each week.

3. Sleep after you practice. It helps you retain information. Even a short 10 minute cat nap will seal in what you have learned.

4. Strategy of sticky notes. Choose a very small spot to work on. Put a sticky note at the end to remind yourself to stop! Master a very small spot at a time. Small Bites.

5. Practice without sound. Imagine the sound in your head. This is called auditation and it will strengthen your memory.

6. Set long term goals. Then set small daily goals. Practice specifically towards your goals.

7. Do not play on "autopilot."

8. Record yourself! Listen to your own playing, and develop new goals from what you hear.
